ITTM is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Dr. Reinhard Schneider, a valued colleague, mentor, friend, Co-Founder, and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 2015.
Reinhard Schneider was a pioneering figure in bioinformatics and computational biology, whose distinguished career encompassed academia, research infrastructure, and industry. As Professor of Bioinformatics and Head of the Bioinformatics Core at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), University of Luxembourg, he was deeply involved and the starting point for the data and computational infrastructure of the Centre.
His entrepreneurial spirit made him a co-founder of LION Bioscience AG and Reinhard was the driving force behind the founding and incorporation of ITTM (Information Technology of Translational Medicine) S.A. in 2015. Reinhard significantly shaped the company’s early success. His unwavering commitment and passion were evident throughout his life.
What made him a good leader wasn’t a strategy or a style — it was that Reinhard was the same person in a board meeting as he was in the elevator. Reinhard said hard things kindly and easy things plainly. He never asked anyone to do something he wouldn’t do herself, and when things went badly, he stood in front of the team and took it. When things went well, Reinhard stepped aside and let us take the credit.
Reinhard will be forever remembered not only for his incredible generosity and humor but especially for his ability to bridge academia and industry. His legacy lives on through every collaboration he initiated, and every life — student or colleague — he inspired.
Reinhard – we will miss you enormously.
